FAQS

What is CropVantage?

CropVantage is a subscription based platform and private advisory and brokerage entity that helps grain, oilseed, pulse, and seed producers manage their inventory more effectively and provide recommendations as to how to optimize the value of their crops and capture more revenue from the grain they produce. It provides real time grade tracking, virtual blending tools, and premium targeting strategies so you can make better informed sales and delivery decisions.

Is CropVantage for farmers only?

No. CropVantage offers consulting and coaching as well to industry professionals from elevator staff to maltsters to brokers and anyone in the industry, helping bridge the employment gap by teaching the nuances of grain blending, capturing grade optimization opportunities, and inventory value management using the CropVantage app as a teaching tool. CropVantage’s goal is to improve and enhance the inventory values, grading efficiencies and profitability of all its users.

Who is CropVantage designed for?

Although primarily designed for grain producers to level the playing field and enable farmers to capture more revenue from the crops they produce, CropVantage is also useful for grain elevators, handlers, brokers, maltsters, processors and any other grain industry professionals who look to capture greater revenues, streamline operations or better understand supply quality.

What problem does CropVantage solve for farmers?

We solve the primary and common problem of leaving money on the table through grade discounts, drying charges, shrinkage and missed premium opportunities or grade improvements. While some of these costs, discounts and charges aren’t completely avoidable, many can be mitigated or significantly reduced through the application of accurate, actionable data enabling the user to understand the nuances of grade management, inventory valuation and revenue extraction.

How is CropVantage different from other Ag-tech tools?

Unlike other tools that focus only on field data, yield tracking or input costs, CropVantage is built specifically for the marketing and delivery stage of grain production. Its virtual blending engine and premium targeting features give you the same kind of grade optimization power that grain companies have used since the inceptions of elevators, and level the playing field by putting those features into the hands of farmers.

How does CropVantage help me capture more revenue from my grain production?

CropVantage helps you identify inventory problems or degrading factors within your inventory early, virtually pre-blend loads to improve your overall delivery grade, avoid or minimize drying and cleaning charges, and target market premiums by showing you how to extract premium product from within your inventory. On average, users capture $10+ per metric tonne (about .25c/bushel or more) in additional value or revenue retention, with $20/mt or more being commonly achievable.

What is virtual blending and how does it work?

Virtual blending lets you combine different lots of grain on screen to see the resulting average quality and grading factors without physically mixing your product or delivering product to your local elevator or end user without knowing what your unloads will look like. Users input their bin data, (Moisture, green count, protein, damage, etc), adjust volumes of products to be mixed, and instantly see the blended outcome, helping users decide which is the most advantageous way to deliver their product to market that effectively puts the most money in their pockets.

Do I need grain samples of every bin?

Yes. The only way to accurately know what your inventory equity value is, what penalties/discounts can be avoided, or what revenue opportunities can be captured is to have highly accurate grading information of each bin of grain on your farm. Elevators/grain processors by example often track factors like damage, protein content, or moisture to 2 decimal places and are exceptionally strict about maintaining accurate knowledge of their inventory at all times.

Load and bin sampling are critical to successful farm operations and are often undervalued by farmers potentially costing them thousands of dollars annually.

What grading standards does CropVantage use in their grade comparison data?

CropVantage does not offer or imply any grade guarantees or industry standards as revisions are common and it can be difficult to keep up with constant changes and variations. However, users can select from USDA, the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) or ISO/FOSFA standards to compare their inventory grades to. CropVantage will update the information as often as reasonable, however grades and grading standards are not guaranteed. Users should go directly to the USDA, CGC, ISO or FOSFA International for the most up to date grading information.

Is CropVantage mobile friendly?

Yes. The app is designed to be used from your office, tablet, phone or other mobile device whether in the office, the shop, in the truck, in the field, or across the desk from your grain buyer or other professional.

Is CropVantage expanding into other areas besides grain?

Yes. The CropVantage platform is applicable to almost any products produced and bought or sold in bulk. Currently our primary focus is on cereal grains, pulses, and oilseeds with 16 different crop options available, but we can custom build grading and virtual blending extensions for any type of grain, virtual blending tables for dry fertilizer, or almost any other commodity from coffee beans to fruits and vegetables to blended oils and more.

Roll out of these different commodities and service areas has no firm projected release dates, but is expected to be ongoing and customizable extensions can be created quickly in accordance with user needs.

Does CropVantage offer anything else besides grade optimization and virtual blending?

Yes. CropVantage is a full service consulting and brokerage company. Producers or industry people can engage CropVantage to oversee their inventory, offer blend recommendations, maximize return values and market their products.

CropVantage also offers a members-only buy/sell trading platform that connects buyers, brokers, grain producers and sellers with highly increased access and visibility to premium quality grain products and premium pricing offers.
